in / on / at (yer)
Animasyonlu anlatım
Çizgi film öğretmen in / on / at (place) bu dersin kendi örnek cümleleriyle sahne sahne anlatır: tahtada formül, renk kodlu cümle parçaları, yanlış → doğru karşılaştırmaları. Anlatım İngilizcedir (İngiliz aksanı). İlk açılışta senaryo hazırlanır (~1 dk), sonra anında açılır.
Bir şeyin ya da birinin nerede olduğunu söylerken İngilizcede çoğu zaman in, on veya at kullanırız. Türkçede bunların hepsi tek bir ekle söylenir: -de / -da (mutfakta, masada, evde). İngilizcede ise yerin türüne bakarız: içinde mi (in), üstünde mi (on), yoksa bir nokta / buluşma yeri mi (at)?
A in = içinde
Durum: Elif is in the kitchen. She's making tea. The tea is in the teapot. (Elif mutfakta. Çay yapıyor. Çay demlikte.)
Elif mutfağın içinde, çay da demliğin içinde. Etrafı dört tarafından kapalı bir yer düşünün → in.
Kural: Oda, kutu, çanta, bina, bahçe, şehir, ülke → in.

Dikkat: Türkçede 'çantamda' deriz; İngilizcede in kelimesi yerin önüne gelir: in my bag.

- Zeynep lives in Izmir.Zeynep İzmir'de yaşıyor.Şehir ve ülke → her zaman in.
- The children are in the garden.Çocuklar bahçede.
- There's some milk in the fridge.Buzdolabında biraz süt var.
- It's Sunday. Can is still in bed.Pazar günü. Can hâlâ yatakta.in bed → 'the' yok.
- We're in a taxi. The traffic is terrible!Taksideyiz. Trafik berbat!
B on = üstünde / üzerinde
Durum: There's a glass of tea on the table. There's a photo of Ayşe's family on the wall. (Masada bir bardak çay var. Duvarda Ayşe'nin ailesinin bir fotoğrafı var.)
Çay masanın içinde değil, üstünde. Fotoğraf da duvarın yüzeyinde. Bir yüzeye değiyorsa → on.
Kural: Masa, duvar, yer (floor), kapı, kanepe gibi yüzeyler → on.

Karşılaştırın: Türkçede 'duvarda' ve 'odada' aynı ekle söylenir ama İngilizcede: on the wall / in the room.

- There's a big map on the wall.Duvarda büyük bir harita var.Duvarın içinde değil, yüzeyinde → on.
- Don't sit on the floor. It's cold.Yere oturma. Soğuk.
- Our office is on the third floor.Ofisimiz üçüncü katta.
- I'm on the bus. I'll be there in ten minutes.Otobüsteyim. On dakikaya oradayım.
- Tom is on the ferry to Kadıköy.Tom Kadıköy vapurunda.
C at = bir noktada / belli bir yerde
Durum: Sarah isn't at home. She's at work. After work, she's meeting Can at the bus stop. (Sarah evde değil. İşte. İşten sonra Can'la otobüs durağında buluşacak.)
Burada 'içinde mi, üstünde mi' önemli değil. Önemli olan: hangi noktada ya da ne yaptığı yerde olduğu.
Kural: Ev, iş, okul gibi günlük yerler ve buluşma noktaları → at.

Dikkat: at home, at work, at school → arada the yok!
- I'm at home tonight.Bu akşam evdeyim.at home – 'in home' değil, 'the' de yok.
- Mert is at work until six.Mert altıya kadar işte.
- Wait for me at the bus stop.Beni otobüs durağında bekle.
- There's someone at the door.Kapıda biri var.
- We met at a wedding in Bodrum.Bodrum'da bir düğünde tanıştık.
- Turn left at the traffic lights.Trafik ışıklarında sola dön.
D in mi, at mi? on mu, in mi?
Bazen aynı yer için iki farklı edat kullanılır. Anlam biraz değişir.
Durum: Ayşe's son is at school. Right now, he's in the classroom. (Ayşe'nin oğlu okulda. Şu anda sınıfta.)
→ at school = okulda (öğrenci olarak, ders için orada) → in the classroom = sınıfın içinde

Kısaca: küçük, içinde ayakta duramadığın taşıt → in; büyük, içinde yürüyebildiğin taşıt → on.

Üç soru sorun: İçinde mi? → in (in the bag). Üstünde mi? → on (on the table). Bir nokta / buluşma yeri mi? → at (at the bus stop). Ve unutmayın: at home, at work, at school – 'the' yok!
