Çizgi film öğretmen Comparatives: bigger / more expensive bu dersin kendi örnek cümleleriyle sahne sahne anlatır: tahtada formül, renk kodlu cümle parçaları, yanlış → doğru karşılaştırmaları. Anlatım İngilizcedir (İngiliz aksanı). İlk açılışta senaryo hazırlanır (~1 dk), sonra anında açılır.
İki kişiyi ya da iki şeyi karşılaştırırken Türkçede daha ve -den ekini kullanırız: Can'dan daha uzun. İngilizcede kısa sıfatlara -er ekleriz (taller), uzun sıfatların önüne more koyarız (more expensive). Türkçedeki -den ekinin karşılığı ise than kelimesidir: taller than Can.
A Kısa sıfatlar: old → older
Durum: Elif is 30. Her brother Can is 25. Elif is older than Can. (Elif 30 yaşında. Kardeşi Can 25. Elif, Can'dan daha büyük.)
Burada iki kişiyi karşılaştırıyoruz. Kısa (tek heceli) sıfatlara -er ekleriz. Karşılaştırdığımız ikinci kişiden/şeyden önce than gelir.

Türkçe ile fark:
- Türkçede -den eki ismin sonuna gelir: Can'dan.
- İngilizcede than ismin önüne gelir: than Can.
- -er eki zaten daha anlamını taşır. Ayrıca bir daha kelimesi eklemeyiz.
→ Elif is older than Can. = Elif Can'dan daha büyük.
- My flat is smaller than your flat.Benim dairem senin dairenden daha küçük.
- Here, tea is cheaper than coffee.Burada çay kahveden daha ucuz.
- The metro is faster than the bus.Metro otobüsten daha hızlı.
- Mert is taller than his father.Mert babasından daha uzun boylu.
- It's colder today.Bugün hava daha soğuk.Neyle karşılaştırdığımız belliyse (dün), 'than ...' kısmını söylemeyiz.
B Yazım: nicer, bigger, easier
Durum: Our old flat was big. Our new flat is bigger. (Eski dairemiz büyüktü. Yeni dairemiz daha büyük.)
big → bigger: g harfi iki tane oldu! Bazı sıfatlarda -er eklerken yazım biraz değişir.

- Dikkat: iki sesli harf varsa ikileşme olmaz: cheap → cheaper, cool → cooler.
- -y ile biten iki heceli sıfatlar da (happy, busy, heavy) -ier alır, more almaz.
- In Bodrum, August is hotter than May.Bodrum'da ağustos mayıstan daha sıcak.
- This exercise is easier than the last one.Bu alıştırma bir öncekinden daha kolay.
- Zeynep is busier than her husband this week.Zeynep bu hafta kocasından daha meşgul.
- Your new car is bigger than mine.Senin yeni araban benimkinden daha büyük.
- The new road is safer.Yeni yol daha güvenli.safe → safer: sonu -e olduğu için sadece -r eklenir.
C Uzun sıfatlar: more expensive
Durum: A taxi to the airport is 900 lira. The metro is 40 lira. The taxi is more expensive than the metro. (Havalimanına taksi 900 lira. Metro 40 lira. Taksi metrodan daha pahalı.)
expensive uzun bir kelime (ex-pen-sive: 3 hece). Uzun sıfatlara -er eklemeyiz. Önüne more (= daha) koyarız.

- Istanbul is more crowded than Bodrum.İstanbul Bodrum'dan daha kalabalık.
- This sofa is more comfortable than the old one.Bu kanepe eskisinden daha rahat.
- For me, maths is more difficult than English.Bana göre matematik İngilizceden daha zor.
- Motorbikes are more dangerous than cars.Motosikletler arabalardan daha tehlikeli.
- My new job is more interesting.Yeni işim daha ilginç.
D good → better, bad → worse; than me
Durum: My Turkish coffee is good. But my mother's coffee is better. (Benim Türk kahvem iyi. Ama annemin kahvesi daha iyi.)
Bazı sıfatlar kurala uymaz. Bunları ezberleyin:

than + kişi: than'dan sonra genelde me, him, her, us, them kullanırız.
- benden → than me
- ondan → than him / than her
- bizden → than us
(than I da var ama çok resmî. Konuşurken than me deriz.)
- My mum's coffee is better than mine.Annemin kahvesi benimkinden daha iyi.
- The traffic is worse on Fridays.Cuma günleri trafik daha kötü.
- The airport is further than the station.Havalimanı istasyondan daha uzak.farther de doğru; İngiltere'de further daha yaygın.
- My brother is taller than me.Kardeşim benden daha uzun.
- They're richer than us.Onlar bizden daha zengin.
Kısa kelime → kısa çözüm: -er ekle (cheaper). Uzun kelime → uzun çözüm: more ekle (more expensive). İkisi birden asla! Ve Türkçedeki -den karşılaştırmada her zaman than olur, asla from değil.
