Animasyonlu anlatım
Çizgi film öğretmen much / many / a lot of / a few / a little bu dersin kendi örnek cümleleriyle sahne sahne anlatır: tahtada formül, renk kodlu cümle parçaları, yanlış → doğru karşılaştırmaları.
Bu ünitede miktar ve sayı anlatan küçük kelimeleri öğreneceğiz: much, many, a lot of (= çok) ve a few, a little (= birkaç, biraz).
A much ve many
Durum: Zeynep Ankara'da yeni. Orada many people tanımıyor. Ay sonu, much money'si de yok. She doesn't know many people. She hasn't got much money.
→ people sayılabilir (bir kişi, iki kişi) → many → money sayılamaz (bir para, iki para denmez) → much
| Kelime | Hangi isimle? | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| many | sayılabilir, çoğul (-s) | many cars, many friends, many days |
| much | sayılamayan | much time, much money, much tea |
Önemli: much ve many çoğunlukla olumsuz (not) ve soru cümlelerinde kullanılır.
- I don't have much time. → Çok vaktim yok.
- Have you got many friends here? → Burada çok arkadaşın var mı?
- I don't drink much coffee.Çok kahve içmem.coffee sayılamaz → much
- There aren't many cafés in this street.Bu sokakta çok kafe yok.cafés çoğul → many

- Did you take many photos in Bodrum?Bodrum'da çok fotoğraf çektin mi?

B a lot of / lots of
Durum: Mert futbolu çok seviyor. Çok maç izliyor. Biletlere de çok para harcıyor. He watches a lot of matches. He spends a lot of money on tickets.
→ matches sayılabilir, money sayılamaz – ama ikisinde de a lot of kullandık!
Kural: a lot of her iki isimle de olur. Özellikle olumlu cümlede bunu kullanın. lots of aynı anlamdadır, biraz daha günlük konuşma dilidir.
Olumlu cümlede much / many kulağa tuhaf ya da çok resmî gelir:
- ✗ I have much money. → ✓ I have a lot of money.
| sayılabilir (cars) | sayılamayan (traffic) | |
|---|---|---|
| + | There are a lot of cars. | There's a lot of traffic. |
| – | There aren't many cars. | There isn't much traffic. |
| ? | Are there many cars? | Is there much traffic? |
Not: Olumsuz ve soru cümlesinde de a lot of kullanabilirsiniz: Is there a lot of traffic? ✓

C a few ve a little
Durum: Can menemen yapıyor. Birkaç yumurtaya ve biraz tuza ihtiyacı var. He needs a few eggs and a little salt.
→ eggs sayılabilir → a few (= birkaç) → salt sayılamaz → a little (= biraz)
| Kelime | Türkçesi | Hangi isimle? | Örnek |
|---|---|---|---|
| a few | birkaç | sayılabilir, çoğul | a few eggs, a few days |
| a little | biraz | sayılamayan | a little salt, a little milk |
Türkçede birkaç yumurta deriz, isim tekildir. İngilizcede ise isim çoğul olur: a few eggs.
Dikkat: a little burada küçük değil, biraz demektir.
- I've got a few friends in London.Londra'da birkaç arkadaşım var.
- Can I have a little milk in my tea?Çayıma biraz süt alabilir miyim?

D How much? / How many? – ve isimsiz kullanım
Durum: Elif pazarda. – How many lemons do you want? (Kaç limon?) – How much is this cheese? (Bu peynir ne kadar?)
| Soru | Ne zaman? | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| How many + çoğul isim | kaç tane? | How many lemons? |
| How much + sayılamayan | ne kadar? | How much water? |
| How much is/are …? | fiyat | How much are these shoes? |
İsim olmadan: Bu kelimeleri ismi tekrar etmeden de kullanabiliriz. Ama dikkat: isim yoksa a lot (of yok!).
- Mert talks a lot. → Mert çok konuşur. (✗ a lot of)
- "Do you eat meat?" "Not much."

- Tom works from home and travels a lot.Tom evden çalışıyor ve çok seyahat ediyor.isim yok → a lot
- "Is there any bread?" "Yes, a little.""Ekmek var mı?" "Evet, biraz."
Kısa kural: İsmin sonunda -s varsa (cars, eggs, days) → many / a few / How many. -s yoksa ve sayamıyorsan (su, para, zaman, trafik) → much / a little / How much. Emin değilsen olumlu cümlede a lot of kullan – iki türe de uyar!
