Çizgi film öğretmen should / shouldn't bu dersin kendi örnek cümleleriyle sahne sahne anlatır: tahtada formül, renk kodlu cümle parçaları, yanlış → doğru karşılaştırmaları. Anlatım İngilizcedir (İngiliz aksanı). İlk açılışta senaryo hazırlanır (~1 dk), sonra anında açılır.
should bir modal fiildir. Birine tavsiye vermek ya da bir konuda fikrimizi söylemek için kullanılır: You should rest. = Dinlenmelisin / Dinlensen iyi olur. Türkçede bunu çoğunlukla -meli/-malı ekiyle ya da 'bence …', '… yapsan iyi olur' diye söyleriz. should bir zorunluluk değildir. must kadar güçlü değildir, sadece bir öneridir.
A should = … yapsan iyi olur
Durum: Elif çok yorgun. Her gece saat 2'de yatıyor. Elif is very tired. She goes to bed at 2 a.m. every night. Arkadaşı ona şöyle diyor: You should go to bed early. (Erken yatmalısın. / Erken yatsan iyi olur.)
→ Bu bir emir değil, bir tavsiye. Arkadaşı bunun iyi bir fikir olduğunu düşünüyor.

• should hiç değişmez: he should ✅ (he shoulds ❌) • should'dan sonra to gelmez: should go ✅ (should to go ❌) • Fiil de yalın kalır: she should work ✅ (she should works ❌) • Türkçede bu anlamı fiilin sonuna ek olarak koyarız (gitmelisin). İngilizcede ise should fiilden önce gelir: you should go.
- You should drink more water.Daha çok su içmelisin.
- Mert should see a doctor. His back hurts every day.Mert doktora görünmeli. Sırtı her gün ağrıyor.
- We should leave now. The traffic on the bridge is terrible at six.Şimdi çıkmalıyız. Saat altıda köprü trafiği berbat oluyor.
- It's a great film. You should watch it.Harika bir film. İzlemelisin.Yani 'izlesen iyi olur'. Bu bir öneri.
- Ayşe should ask for a pay rise. She works so hard.Ayşe zam istemeli. Çok çalışıyor.he/she ile de should aynı kalır, -s almaz.
B shouldn't = … yapmasan iyi olur
Durum: Can her akşam altı bardak çay içiyor. Sonra uyuyamıyor. Can drinks six glasses of tea every evening. Then he can't sleep. You shouldn't drink so much tea at night. (Gece bu kadar çay içmemelisin.)
→ Bir şeyin iyi bir fikir olmadığını düşünüyoruz.

• Konuşmada hep kısa halini kullanırız: shouldn't. • Olumsuz yapmak için do/don't kullanmayız: You don't should ❌ → You shouldn't ✅

C Should I …? — Tavsiye istemek
Durum: Sarah İstanbul'a yeni geldi. Arkadaşına soruyor: Should I take a taxi or the metro? (Taksiye mi binsem, metroya mı?) You should take the metro. It's faster. (Metroya binmelisin. Daha hızlı.)
Kural: Soru yaparken should cümlenin başına geçer. do/does kullanılmaz.

• Türkçedeki 'Onu arasam mı?', 'Ne giysem?', 'Nereye gitsek?' gibi sorular İngilizcede çoğunlukla Should I/we …? olur.

Durum: Tom bu akşam stadyuma, maça gitmek istiyor. Ama hasta. Tom wants to go to the match tonight. But he's ill. I don't think he should go. He should stay at home.
→ Fikrimizi daha kibar ve yumuşak söylemek için I think / I don't think kullanırız. Türkçedeki 'bence' gibi.

• Olumsuz fikirde İngilizler genelde think'i olumsuz yapar: I don't think you should … Çok daha doğal. (I think you shouldn't … yanlış değil, ama daha az kullanılır.) • Dikkat: iki olumsuzluk yok! I don't think you shouldn't go ❌
- I think you should talk to your boss.Bence patronunla konuşmalısın.

Durum: Doktor Mert'e diyor ki: You must take this medicine. (Bu ilacı almak zorundasın. → ciddi, zorunlu) Arkadaşı diyor ki: You should go for a walk every day. (Her gün yürüyüşe çıksan iyi olur. → tavsiye)
