Animasyonlu anlatım
Çizgi film öğretmen can / can't / could bu dersin kendi örnek cümleleriyle sahne sahne anlatır: tahtada formül, renk kodlu cümle parçaları, yanlış → doğru karşılaştırmaları. Anlatım İngilizcedir (İngiliz aksanı). İlk açılışta senaryo hazırlanır (~1 dk), sonra anında açılır.
can, bir şeyi yapabildiğimizi söyler (yetenek ya da olanak). Türkçedeki -ebil / -abil ekine benzer: I can swim. = Yüzebilirim. Olumsuzu can't (-eme / -ama), geçmişi could / couldn't (-ebildi / -emedi). Ayrıca Can I…? / Could you…? ile izin ister, rica ederiz.
A can / can't: yapabilmek, yapamamak
Durum: Ayşe is a swimming teacher. She can swim very well. Her husband Mert can't swim. He sits on the beach in Bodrum. (Ayşe çok iyi yüzebilir. Kocası Mert yüzemez. Bodrum'da kumsalda oturur.)
Kural: can + fiilin yalın hâli → yapabilmek. can't + fiilin yalın hâli → yapamamak.
| Form | Örnek |
|---|---|
| Olumlu (+) | I / you / he / she / we / they can swim. |
| Olumsuz (–) | I / you / he / she / we / they can't swim. |

- Kişi değişince can değişmez: she can (she cans ❌).
- Fiil de değişmez: can swim (can swims ❌, can to swim ❌).
Türkçeyle karşılaştır: Türkçede ek fiilin sonuna gelir: yüz-ebil-ir. İngilizcede can fiilin önüne gelir: can swim.

- Do you can drive? ❌ → Can you drive? ✅
- Kısa cevapta fiil tekrar edilmez: Yes, I can. (Yes, I can drive. de olur ama uzun.)
Türkçeyle karşılaştır: Türkçede soru eki sonda: kullan-abilir misin? İngilizcede soru can ile başlar.

| Zaman | (+) | (–) | (?) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Şimdi | I can swim. | I can't swim. | Can you swim? |
| Geçmiş | I could swim. | I couldn't swim. | Could you swim? |
- could'dan sonra da fiil yalın: I couldn't go (couldn't went ❌).
