Çizgi film öğretmen Present simple: I work / she works bu dersin kendi örnek cümleleriyle sahne sahne anlatır: tahtada formül, renk kodlu cümle parçaları, yanlış → doğru karşılaştırmaları. Anlatım İngilizcedir (İngiliz aksanı). İlk açılışta senaryo hazırlanır (~1 dk), sonra anında açılır.

Present simple (geniş zaman) ile her gün, her zaman ya da genellikle olan şeyleri anlatırız: alışkanlıklar, iş, günlük rutin ve genel gerçekler. Türkçedeki çalışırım, çalışır gibi düşünebilirsin. Ama dikkat: Türkçede alışkanlıklar için çoğu zaman -iyor da deriz (Her gün metroyla gidiyorum). İngilizcede ise burada present simple kullanılır. Bu ünitede sadece olumlu cümleleri öğreniyoruz: I work / she works.

A I work / she works

Ayşe bir hemşire. İstanbul'da bir hastanede çalışıyor.

Ayşe is a nurse. She works at a hospital in Istanbul. She starts work at 8 o'clock. (Ayşe hemşire. İstanbul'da bir hastanede çalışır. İşe saat 8'de başlar.)

Şu anda Ayşe belki evde uyuyor. Ama bu cümleler onun genel durumunu anlatıyor, her gün böyle. Bunun için present simple kullanırız.

Kural çok basit: fiilin yalın hâlini kullan. Sadece he / she / it (o) ile fiilin sonuna -s ekle.

  • my parents, Can and Elif, people → çoğul = they → -s yok

Türkçede her kişi için ayrı ek var (çalışırım, çalışırsın, çalışır…). İngilizcede sadece bir ek var: -s, o da sadece he/she/it ile.

  • I work in an office in Levent.Levent'te bir ofiste çalışırım.I → -s yok
  • My brother works from home.Erkek kardeşim evden çalışır.my brother = he → works
  • We drink tea every morning.Her sabah çay içeriz.
  • Zeynep speaks English and German.Zeynep İngilizce ve Almanca konuşur.Zeynep = she → speaks

  • My parents live in İzmir.Annemle babam İzmir'de yaşar.my parents = they → -s yok

B -s, -es, -ies: yazım kuralları

Mert öğretmen. Her gün otobüsle işe gidiyor, akşam da futbol izliyor.

Mert teaches maths. He goes to work by bus. In the evening he watches football.

Gördün mü? Bazen sadece -s yetmiyor. Kurallar şöyle:

Düzensiz bir fiil: have → has (Ünite 4'teki has got gibi).

C Ne zaman kullanırız?

Sarah İngiliz ama Bodrum'da yaşıyor. Her sabah denizde yüzüyor.

Sarah lives in Bodrum. She swims in the sea every morning.

Present simple şunlar için:

  • alışkanlıklar ve rutinler → I get up at 7.
  • iş, ev, genel durum → Tom works in a bank.
  • her zaman doğru olan şeyler → Water boils at 100 degrees.

Sık kullanılan zaman ifadeleri: every day / every morning / every week, on Mondays, at weekends, in the morning / in the evening, twice a week.

Türkçeyle karşılaştır:

Türkçede -iyor desek bile, alışkanlık ya da genel durumsa İngilizcede present simple kullan.

Dikkat: am / is / are + fiil yan yana gelmez. I am work ✗ → I work ✓

Türkçede fiil sonda gelir: Can her akşam evde çay içer. İngilizcede fiil öznenin hemen arkasından gelir:

  • Sıra: kim → ne yapar → ne → nerede → ne zaman
  • Zaman ifadesi genellikle sona gelir. Başa da gelebilir: Every evening, Can drinks tea.
  • Ama fiil hep özneden hemen sonra! Can tea drinks. ✗
  • Elif reads the news on her phone every morning.Elif her sabah haberleri telefonundan okur.
  • My husband cooks dinner at weekends.Hafta sonları akşam yemeğini kocam pişirir.
  • On Fridays, we eat fish.Cuma günleri balık yeriz.zaman ifadesi başta
  • The children play in the garden after school.Çocuklar okuldan sonra bahçede oynar.

-s kuyruğu kuralı: Özne he / she / it ise fiile bir -s kuyruğu tak. Bir kişi = bir kuyruk: Ali works. İki kişi = kuyruk yok: Ali and Ayşe work. Cümleyi yazınca kendine sor: 'Özne tek kişi mi? O zaman -s nerede?'

Sık yapılan hatalar

She work in a bank.She works in a bank.he / she / it ile fiile -s eklenir. Türkçede bu ek yok diye unutmak çok kolay.
I am work in a hotel.I work in a hotel.Present simple'da am / is / are kullanılmaz. Fiil tek başına yeterli.
My brother studys at night.My brother studies at night.Sessiz harf + y ile biten fiillerde y gider, -ies gelir: study → studies.
Mert and Can plays football.Mert and Can play football.İki kişi = they. They ile -s eklenmez.
Every morning I tea drink.Every morning I drink tea.İngilizcede fiil sonda değil, öznenin hemen arkasında gelir.
